SFDDA Mandated Courses for Re-Licensure:
9:00 a.m. (two hours) “Prescribing Controlled Substances”
Legislation now requires that all dentists take the two-hour Opioid Prescribing course by the license renewal deadline of February 29, 2020. If you have already taken this course you are not required to take it again in this biennium.
The course will review:
11:30 a.m. (one hour): “Human Trafficking”
Dentists must now complete a one-hour CE course on human trafficking as part of the total number of hours for CE required by law.
The course will address:
12:30 p.m. (2 hours) Medical Errors
This course is designed to inform and educate dentists about risk management and the prevention of medical errors in clinical practice.
2:30 p.m. (2 hours) Domestic Violence
This course will help dentists in early identification of domestic violence victims and their abusers, and to offer education, counseling, and referral information when needed.
Speaker : Richard Mufson, D.D.S.
Dr. Mufson is a native of Miami Beach, Florida, and a graduate of Miami Beach Senior High School. He received a BS degree from University of Florida in Gainesville in 1975, followed by a DDS degree from Temple University School of Dentistry in Philadelphia, PA in 1983.
After four years of dental school, he completed a post-doctoral residency training program in the specialty of oral and maxillofacial surgery at Georgetown University School of Dentistry and Medical Center in Washington, DC in 1986.
He then returned to his home town, where he has practiced as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon since 1986. In 1991, he successfully completed the written and oral examinations administered by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS), and thus conferring upon him the status of board-certification as a specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a Diplomate of the ABOMS.
Throughout a span of over thirty years in practice, Dr. Mufson has been very involved in the dental community and organized dentistry. In addition to membership, he has served as a leader and president of multiple local and state dental and oral and maxillofacial surgery organizations, including North Dade - Miami Beach Dental Society, South Florida District Dental Association, Miami Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and Florida Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is also a member of the American Dental Association and Florida Dental Association.
Dr. Mufson has also been involved in teaching and lecturing dentists for over twenty-five years on the subjects of state-mandated courses required for biennial license renewal. These have included, “HIV and Other Infectious Diseases of Importance to Dentistry,” “Laws and Rules of Dentistry,” “Medical Errors,” and “Risk Management” and Domestic Violence.
