Dental Student Loan Repayment Program

On Friday, April 26, the Senate considered CS/SB 7078 by Sen. Gayle Harrell (R-Stuart), which includes several different health care policy issues.
  • FDA-supported language to reinstate the dental student loan repayment program and expands the Donated Dental Services program
  • expansion of direct health care agreements (to include dentists)
  • transparency of hospital quality information
  • access to primary and specialist care in a hospital setting
  • ambulatory surgical center services
  • pediatric cardiac standard of care
  • patient notification of hospital observation status
  • step-therapy protocol
  • invalid restrictive covenants

The Senate then took up CS/HB 843 by Rep. Ana Maria Rodriguez (R-Doral), in lieu of CS/SB 7078 and adopted a strike-all amendment to make the bill identical to CS/SB 7078. Now, the FDA-supported language is in CS/HB 843.The Senate placed CS/HB 843 on third reading and will take the bill up again sometime next week.
