The Dental Student Loan Repayment Program Legislation awaits to be heard by the Senate and the House Health Care Appropriations Subcommittee.
On Thursday, Feb. 22, the Senate Appropriations Committee approved CS/SB 764 by Sen. Aaron Bean (R-Jacksonville). This legislation would reinstate the dental student loan repayment program and encourage dentists to work full time as Medicaid providers in rural and underserved areas around the state. In return, dentists would be eligible to receive up to $50,000 in financial assistance per year to repay their student loans. Eligible dentists would be able to participate in the program for a maximum of five years. CS/SB 764 is now available to be heard on the Senate floor. The House companion, CS/HB 369 by Rep. Colleen Burton (R-Lakeland), is waiting to be heard in the House Health Care Appropriations Subcommittee.
