On Tuesday, Jan. 16, the Senate Health Policy Committee unanimously approved SB 764 by Sen. Aaron Bean (R-Jacksonville). The bill reinstates the dental student loan repayment program and encourages dentists to practice as full-time Medicaid providers in rural and underserved areas. Dentists participating in the program would be eligible to receive up to $50,000 a year for a maximum of five years. SB 764 now heads to the Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education for consideration. The House companion, HB 369 by Rep. Colleen Burton (R-Lakeland), has not been heard yet in committee.
